Prosecutor Limits Blagojevich Impeachment Probe
By Jacque Day
Illinois – Federal prosecutors have asked the Illinois House impeachment committee not to delve into criminal charges against Governor Rod Blagojevich. U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald released a letter Tuesday warning the committee that discussing documents related to the charges against Blagojevich, as well as interviewing witnesses, could undermine his criminal investigation. This request could mean quicker action on whether to recommend an impeachment vote by the full House. Members of the committee have promised to abide by any direction from prosecutors on what should be off limits.
