Several hundred people gathered on a sunny, but chilly Friday morning for the Paducah Veterans Day parade and ceremony. Nicole Erwin of WKMS News was on site to capture the events in photos.
Walter Eugene Lowrey was named 2017 Distinguished Veteran and served as the parade's grand marshal. Cynthia Stevenson Byrd was the recipient of the 2017 Patriot Award, honoring a non-veteran who dedicates time to serving veterans and veteran causes in the community.
The event was peaceful and well-organized, despite some controversy over barring certain flags, including Confederate flags, from being flown in the parade and calls for boycott.
