Payless ShoeSource is closing 400 stores across the country including locations in Hopkinsville, Madisonville, Murray and Paducah.
The company said in a release Tuesday it has filed for bankruptcy in an effort to restructure their debt load. Payless said the closing locations are “underperforming” and are set for “immediate closure.”
CEO Paul Jones said the decision was driven by intensifying challenges in the retail environment. Payless operates 4,400 stores in more than 30 countries.
