Update: The Henry County Election Commission has updated the final tally for the local option sales tax vote. The referendum still passes by a margin of 1,365 for the tax and 449 against.

Residents currently pay a seven percent statewide tax along with the existing 2.25 percent local rate.

The new 2.75 percent rate takes effect July 1.

Last month, City Manager Carl Holdersaid the jump could raise roughly $640,000.

The Paris City Commissioners have unanimously pledged to repeal a recent eight percent property tax hike if today's sales tax were approved.
