Update: The Henry County Election Commission has updated the final tally for the local option sales tax vote. The referendum still passes by a margin of 1,365 for the tax and 449 against.
The local sales tax option will increase the rate by half a cent starting this summer.
Residents currently pay a seven percent statewide tax along with the existing 2.25 percent local rate.
The new 2.75 percent rate takes effect July 1.
Last month, City Manager Carl Holdersaid the jump could raise roughly $640,000.
