Paducah Woman Ranks Top in Kentucky for Cancer Research Fundraising Through Cycling

Patience Renzulli via Facebook

Update Friday Afternoon (6/9): Patience Renzulli is still first in Kentucky and now ranks 9th in the nation.

Original story:

A 63-year-old Paducah nurse is leading the commonwealth in an effort to raise money for children’s cancer research through cycling.

Patience Renzulli has raised more than $2,000 dollars this month, putting her first in the state and in the top 100 in the nation for the Great Cycle Challenge. Participating cyclists set riding and fundraising goals for the month of June while sponsors donate to the cause. Renzulli said threats to national funding for cancer research and treatment motivated her to take action.

“Somebody has to take care of our kids,” Renzulli said. “So if I can do that by riding my bike and this beautiful wonderful community in Kentucky will support that, I’m going for it.”

Around 300 cyclists in Kentucky and 40,000 nationwide are taking part in the national challenge this month. Since its start in 2015, The Great Cycle Challenge has raised more than four million dollars for the Children’s Cancer Research Fund.
