Paducah Tree Ordinance Vote Tomorrow

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – Paducah City Commissioners tomorrow will consider an ordinance to protect trees, requiring those who remove ones 18 inches or more in diameter to replace them with three or more new trees. The Paducah Sun reports the idea behind the ordinance comes from resident's outrage when hundreds of trees were cut down on the Barkley Woods property near I-24. The land was cleared for a subdivision development that never came to fruition and was eventually sold to Murray State University, which plans to build a new Paducah campus there one day. The ordinance's purpose is to discourage future developers from removing large trees.
