City leaders seeking a more than half million dollar grant to make Paducah's historic Downtown more accessible to cyclists.

The Paducah City Commission approved an ordinance to apply for a Kentucky Transportation Alternative Program Tuesday night at its regularly scheduled meeting.

City Planner Steve Irwin says Paducah plans to add bike lanes along Jefferson St. and Broadway St.

The project is expected to cost more than half a million dollars.

"The TAP grant is due on September 30th of 2015," said Irwin. "The total project cost is anticipated to be approximately $610,000, which includes construction as well as engineering as surveying."

The TAP grant will be matched with more than $122,000 from the city for the project.

Jefferson St. will have an outbound lane from 2nd St. to 28th St. while an inbound lane will run from 28th St. to 19th St. then over to Broadway before ending at 2nd St.

The bike lanes will connect the Greenway Trail downtown to Noble Park.
