Paducah Police Department Reintroduces Officer Baseball Cards

paducahky.gov

They may not hold the same value as your ultra-rare 1952 Mickey Mantle, but the Paducah Police Department’s bringing back its officer baseball card program.

The first run launched in the nineties before a round of budget cuts.

Following a brief resurgence about a decade ago, the cards featuring biographical information on every PPD officer will return later this month.

Community Resource Officer Gretchen Morgan says the cards help to humanize the force and make citizens, especially children, more comfortable around officers.

“I mean, everybody loves a baseball card," Morgan said. "So yeah, it gives them a chance to come up, spark a little conversation, and be able to talk back and forth in a non-confrontational manner.”

Morgan says the PPD worked with local preschool program Head Start to make the cards, including starter packs featuring Police Chief Brandon Barnhill and the city’s three D.A.R.E officers.

Those interested in starting their collection can speak to any Paducah Police Department officer.
