Paducah Life magazine celebrates 25 years with a "Sing a Song of Paducah" music contest that strives to find tunes that outpace Benny Goodman and Carmen Miranda's classic lyric, "Don't Poo Poo Paducah!" On Sounds Good, Kate Lochte speaks with Associate Editor J.T. Crawford about how songwriters can enter the contest and they consider some song ideas for inspiration.
Paducah Life Magazine hopes to make history by establishing a new tune about Paducah. "We're all about celebrating Paducah, this area, this region, the things that just make it wonderful," says J.T. Crawford. People write songs that they love, he adds, and that it's a perfect tribute to the city.
To enter: Send an original work or a new version of an old arrangement (as long as its in the public domain). Send a general recording (doesn't need to be studio quality) as an mp3 or an upload to YouTube to Paducah Life at jt@paducahlife.com.
Deadline: June 15
The judging process: A panel of local artists will narrow down the entries. Readers will then vote for their favorite song on the Paducah Life website. Crawford says he hopes that the winner will have their song declared the "official song" of Paducah by the mayor.
