Paducah officials are working to establish a new 9-1-1 service within the city.
Commissioners introduced an ordinance at last night’s (Tuesday) meeting to repeal the interlocal cooperation agreement with McCracken County for emergency call services and establish the Paducah 9-1-1 Communications Services Department.
The previous contract with the County expires June 30th.
The ordinance also includes an increase of the telephone landline fee to $2.50 per month.
City Manager Jeff Pederson says the move brings more resources into the city’s system while continuing a 9-1-1 service to residents.
Under the ordinance, the city department would be able to contract with McCracken County or other agencies for cooperative 9-1-1 services.
The city’s emergency service would go into effect July 1st. Commissioners vote to approve the ordinance at the next meeting June 7th.
