The city of Paducah is moving forward with two park construction projects.

At Tuesday's meeting, the Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Wilkins Construction Company to begin grading work on the North 13th Street Health Park.

The project includes safety surfacing for the Paducah Rotary Playground built this summer, as well as irrigation and drainage work of the lawn in the center of the park, a walking trail, lighting and a fitness area.   Future elements for the park include restrooms, a spray pad and an outdoor performance area.

Wilkins’ bid was the lowest bid at just over $619,000 for the 180-day project.  The City has received grants and donations totaling more than $668,000 for this project.

The board also signed a more than $53,000 contract with HDR Engineering for a further 3,000-foot extension of the Greenway Trail.

The city currently has 4.5 miles of Greenway Trail stretching from County Park Road to Campbell Road.

The next phase of extension sees the Greenway extended along the riverfront to benefit the existing Shultz Park.  Construction on the Greenway is expected to start in early 2018.
