Bluegrass music is just a part of the territory around Owensboro and Daviess County.

Now there’s a more formal push, as part of a promotional campaign, to let people know it’s a year-round place to hear bluegrass music or jam.

Beck Glenn is spokeswoman for the Owensboro-Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

“There are organized times that you can be guaranteed that you’re going to see live musicians," said Glenn." But you can walk into the bluegrass music museum literally any time they’re open and you might see a bluegrass band that has traveled here, a lot of times it’s an international band that on their its first U.S. tour."

Glenn said social media is increasingly being used to invite people to jam.

“Bluegrass is such a part of our community and it’s such an attraction for visitors, we just want to promote anything that has to do with bluegrass music that might attract people to our community," said Glenn. "We’re so close to the birthplace of Bill Monroe in Ohio County and we have the International Bluegrass Music Museum.”

Monroe is called the “father of bluegrass music.”
