Illinois State Police say a woman is dead after striking a tree with her vehicle in southern Illinois.

Police say in a release on Friday a 19-year-old white female was traveling west on Illinois HWY 146 at the Johnson County - Pope County line. She was not named in the release because family notifications are pending.

Her vehicle, a 2008 Ford Focus, left the roadway onto the north shoulder and struck a tree. She was alone in the vehicle.

The driver was reported missing on Thursday and the crash was located Friday morning.

Police say the crash is under investigation.
