NWS: Thunderstorms and Chance of Tornadoes Throughout Tonight

NWS

Much of our listening area will be impacted by locally heavy rain and damaging winds this afternoon through tonight - and the chance of isolated tornadoes may not be ruled out.

The National Weather Service in Paducah says scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected over much of the  region this afternoon and into the evening.  Severe thunderstorms, potentially in the form of super cell storm systems, brining large hail and gusts up to 28 mph  A chance of isolated tornadoes is possible.

Locally heavy rainfall amounts will also be a concern, especially over the southern half of the region where over 2 inches of rain fell in many areas.  Flooding issues may develop in already saturated areas later this evening.

According to NWS, most flood deaths occur in automobiles.  You should never drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway as flood waters are usually deeper than they appear.  Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.  If flooding is observed act quickly, move up to higher ground to escape flood waters.
