The National Weather Service in Paducah says thunderstorms will impact most of the region today with the chance of some becoming severe.
Scattered to numerous thunderstorms are expected to develop over southern Illinois and southeast Missouri around midday and then push eastward into Kentucky in the afternoon.
The primary hazards will be damaging wind gusts, up to 20mph, and large hail. Locally heavy rainfall may result in flooding.
Forecasters say the system could become instable as the day goes on making it harder to predict the severity of storms.
Thunderstorms are expected to continue throughout the week.
