NWS: More Precipitation, Possible Flooding on the Way

National Weather Service meteorologists say a very active and rapidly changing weather pattern will be with us over the next few days, with more wintry precipitation followed by possible flooding.

A winter storm watch takes effect for most of our listening area tomorrow, from noon through 6 a.m. Saturday.

NWS meteorologist Rick Shanklin says there's a small chance of light snow overnight and through the morning.

Friday afternoon will bring the bulk of wintry precipitation, with about 1-3 inches of freezing rain expected across the region.

Shanklin says he's not sure how that rain will react with the several inches of snow already on the ground.

"Tomorrow night is the great unknown," Shanklin said.

Shanklin says because of the heavy snow pack and frozen ground, that rain brings the possibility of flooding or even structural damage.

The NWS expects another 2-3 inches of rain Saturday night as temperatures temporarily climb above freezing. But, another surge of arctic air is expected next week.
