Newberry Enters Alford Plea on Zoning Charges, Charges Against Harnice Dropped

Lance Dennee

A judge has sentenced former McCracken County Judge/Executive Van Newberry to two years of unsupervised probation and ordered him to pay $13,830.91 in restitution.

Newberry and his Deputy Doug Harnice faced public misconduct charges stemming from allegations of property zone alterations between 2007 and 2008. Newberry entered an Alford plea for a misdemeanor charge of Official Misconduct in the 2nd degree today. An Alford plea allows Newberry to assert his innocence but admit there is enough evidence to find him guilty.

Charges against Harnice were dropped.
