The New U.S. 68/KY 80 Eggners Ferry Bridge is open to four-lane traffic. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet hosted a “Bridge Day” ceremony Wednesday before the two eastbound lanes opened to the public.
Officials said in a news release an estimated 2,000 people got an up-close look, walking along the $133 million dollar bridge. Many gathered for a brief ceremony and ribbon cutting at noon.
The westbound side is still down to one-lane as crews add permanent traffic stripes.
The walking trail connection opens in another six to eight weeks. Additional work, including adding architectural lighting, is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
