Nearly 300 Members of Kentucky National Guard to Support Inauguration

Kentucky National Guard

Nearly 300 members of the Kentucky National Guard are heading to Washington D.C. to assist in the Presidential Inauguration.

While members of the Kentucky Guard have supported past inaugurations, it has been several years since the commonwealth sent such a large number.

More than 250 are from the 198th Military Police Battalion in Louisville. The soldiers and airmen will provide traffic control, crowd management, transportation, communication and security.

Some 7,500 Guardsmen from across the country are expected to join law enforcement in the Capitol.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
