A Republican group tasked with winning state-level races across the U.S. has its sights set on Kentucky.
The Republican State Leadership Committee is an independent Republican political action committee that has established itself as a major factor in state legislative races.
The group has been involved in Kentucky legislative races off and on for several years. But with House Republicans making a strong push to win Kentucky'?s lower chamber, the committee is once again taking a long look at the Commonwealth.
Committee spokesman Adam Temple says Kentucky'?s House is in play because of President Barack Obama'?s unpopularity in the state.
?The fact that we'?re even talking about the Kentucky House being a possibility for turnover shows that the Obama administration'?s policies are trickling down all the way to state level candidates," he says.
Temple says the RSLC hasn'?t decided how many or what resources it will send to Kentucky. But the group flipped many southern state legislatures in 2010, and Temple says Kentucky is a big blue target in a deep red South.
?And that'?s what we'?re doing in Kentucky, is closely watching what is going on and looking at it as an opportunity to possibly take back the House,? he says.
Temple says the RSLC has run TV and radio ads for campaigns in the past and could do so for Kentucky candidates as well.
Democrats will also have help this fall with their campaign to stay in control of the state House, thanks to Democratic Super PAC Kentucky Family Values.
