Murray State's ROOTS 5 Features Bluegrass, Western Swing Headliners

Murray State University's ROOTS 5 Music Concert comes to the Lovett Auditorium stage on October 7, featuring Grammy-nominated Mark Newton and Steve Thomas headlining with a bluegrass set, along with Jason McKendree on banjo. Also, Nashville-based Chris Scruggs and the Stone Fox 5 with vintage country and western swing, featuring Kenny Vaughan (named best guitarist in the Nashville Scene Music Awards). The doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is free. The concert starts at 7:30 and goes until 9:30. ROOTS 5 is sponsored by MSU’s Departments of History and English, and by WKMS.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
