The Murray State Rifle Team competes for a third national championship title Friday. The 2016 NCAA Rifle National Championship is this weekend in Akron, Ohio.
Murray State is ranked second in the nationamong college rifle teams, behind West Virginia University. The Racers have the second-highest smallbore average and third-highest air rifle average among the eight teams competing.
The other schools competing are third-ranked University of Kentucky, Texas Christian University, University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Air Force Academy, University of Nebraska and Jacksonville State University.
Five student comprise the MSU team: Ivan Roe (OVC Smallbore and Co-Air Rifle Athlete of the Year), Barbara Schläpfer, MacKenzie Martin, Ben Estes and Tessa Howald.
This weekend marks the Racers' 30th appearance at the championship. MSU has two NCAA national rifle titles, winning 1985 and 1987.
