Murray State University is ranked 9th among the top public regional universities in the South.

US News and World Report has released their annual Best Colleges report ranking the nation’s universities. The report takes into account data provided by the schools including graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, available financial resources and SAT and ACT scores.

The report also breaks the rankings up by region and category.

Murray State tied for 26th place in best southern regional universities with Christian Brothers University, a private institution in Memphis, but is 9th in the south among public universities alone.

“The rankings confirm what we know to be one of the core strengths of Murray State — our commitment to providing the highest quality educational opportunities while remaining student-centered," said Dr. Bob Davies, president of Murray State University. "It doesn’t surprise me that our dedication continues to be recognized nationally. We will continue to build on these strengths and provide our students with opportunities to compete and succeed.”

Regional universities are defined as offering a broad scope of undergraduate degrees, several master’s degrees and few doctorates. Murray State graduated its first ever doctoral graduates in May with five students receiving their doctor of nursing practice.

The next public university above MSU on the list is Winthrop University in South Carolina.

The top of five universities on the Southern Regional list are private institutions.
