Murray State President Reflects on Deaths of Two Employees, Michael Whitlow and Ray Conklin

Murray State University president Bob Davies sent a letter of condolences Thursday regarding the deaths of two employees: Michael Whitlow and Dr. Ray Conklin.

According to Davies, Whitlow was ‘well liked and respected’ by his fellow colleagues. He died after being involved in car accident on Tuesday. He was 64-years-old. Whitlow served as a building services technician for nearly 12 years at the university. His visitation is on May 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Byrn Funeral Home in Mayfield.

 

Dr. Conklin, noted for starting the Jazz Program at the university also died Tuesday from issues related to illness.

 

Conklin also taught Music History, Music Theory and Brass Methods. His visitation is on May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on May 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Murray.

Davies said both individuals “shaped and served Murray State honorably as they worked tirelessly for our students, staff and faculty.”
