Two authors with national acclaim are coming to Murray State University next week for the MFA Program Reading Series.

Marlin Barton reads on January 8. Barton is the recipient of the 2016 Truman Capote Prize for short fiction. His work includes short story collections Pasture Art, The Dry Well and Dancing by the River. His novels are A Broken Thing and The Cross Garden. His work has appeared in Shenandoah, The Southern Review, The Sewanee Review and The Best American Short Stories.

Kayla Rae Whitaker reads on January 11. Whitaker's work has appeared in Buzzfeed, Literary Hub, Joyland and Bodega. The New York Times called her 2017 debut novel The Animators "unusual and appealing." Publishers' Weekly included her on their Spring 2017 Writers to Watch list.

The readings are at 7:30 and are open to the public.

Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
