Murray State Hires Two New Assistant Basketball Coaches

MSU Racer Athletics

Murray State Mens' Basketball head coach Matt McMahon announced today the hiring of two new assistant basketball coaches.

Shane Nichols from Hofstra University in New York and Tim Kaine from Georgia Southern University join the Racers.

“When putting together our staff, I wanted to hire high energy coaches who have high character and excel in both player development and recruiting,” McMahon said. “Most importantly to me, Shane Nichols and Tim Kaine will serve as great mentors for our student-athletes. They will be tremendous additions to our program and I am thrilled to welcome them to the Murray State family.”

The two arrive as part of a spate of new hirings.  McMahon himself, previously a lead assistant at MSU, was hired just two weeks ago to replace head MSU coach SteveProhmwho is leaving to coach the Iowa State Cyclones.

Rob Canning is a native of Murray, KY, a 2015 TV Production grad of Murray State. At MSU, he served as team captain of the Murray State Rowing Club. Rob's goal is to become a screenwriter, film director or producer and looks to the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie for inspiration. He appreciates good music, mainly favoring British rock n' roll, and approves of anything with Jack White's name on it. When not studying, rowing or writing, Rob enjoys spending his free time with a book or guitar.
