Murray-Calloway County Parks director Tab Brockman says he turned in more than 3,500 signatures Tuesday to the Calloway County Clerk’s Office, easily exceeding the required amount (3,039) to get a new park tax measure on November’s ballot.
Brockman says the clerk’s office will now review the signatures to make sure they are all valid before the referendum can appear on the ballot. If voters approve the measure, the referendum will institute a 5 cent tax per $100 of assessed property to generate about $1 million per year for Murray parks.
