The Murray High School girls’ basketball team took home their first state title with an All-A Tournament championship win over Owensboro Catholic Sunday night.
The Lady Tigers (24-1) routed the Lady Aces 45-28 in Frankfort.
Head coach Rechelle Turner says this year’s success was partly driven by last season’s tournament run that ended in a one-point title game loss to Covington Holy Cross.
“It’s not just a win for this year’s team, it’s a win for all the ladies that have won a Lady Tigers uniform in the past," Turner said. "We’re just extremely thrilled and blessed with the opportunity to be state champions.”
Turner says she’s excited to see the team continue to grow moving forward. The Lady Tigers will lose only two seniors in the offseason - one starter and one reserve.
