The Graves County Sheriff's Office is investigating a number of car break-ins that have occurred in Mayfield.

Earlier this week, thefts and attempted thefts took place north of the city on Treeland Drive, Lumber Road and Construction Drive and then again Thursday night just west of Mayfield on Bel-Aire Drive, Wagon Lane, Chariot Circle and KY 80 West.

“The majority of the thefts have occurred out of the city limits or right at it.” According to Captain Jeremy Prince.

Prince said a number of cars were left unlocked and only one passenger window was broken to gain access.

Some people have come forward with information hours after the crimes occurred, claiming to have heard or seen suspicious behavior.

“We have people say, 'you know I don't want to bother you all.' Well you are not bothering us. This is what we get paid to do, and you know something that seems minor to one person may be something where we could actually catch somebody in the act of committing these thefts or get a vehicle description or something like that.” Prince said.

Mostly cash along with prescription medication and one firearm has been stolen. Prince says the thefts range between a Class A misdemeanor and Class D felony offence. The sheriff's office is reminding resident to lock their doors and remove any valuables from their cars.
