MSU Offers Extended Benefits Package in 2016

An enhanced employee benefit package extending services to Murray State University employees and their household members begins January 1st. At no additional cost, staff will now have access to 24 hour psychological services associated with Louisville based employee assistance provider Wayne Corporation. MSU Director of Human Resources Joyce Gordon says the off-campus options provide confidentiality.

“It’s a good employment decision not to have that information housed within the campus so employees will have an option of either the telephonic, if that’s more convenient for them, or having face to face counseling sessions.” Gordon said.

The package also includes legal and financial services, work life advice and child and elder care services. Because the benefits complement the university's overall wellness initiative, it lowers health insurance costs, providing the additional services free to the university.

Gordon says there’s nothing magical about the timing of the implementation of the extended benefits, the opportunity was realized with a department benefit revamp.

“It’s been needed for a while, it's not just for employees but also for any dependendents or folks living in the household of the employees so it's a pretty expansive kind of coverage.” Gordon said.

The EAP provides professional help to employees and their household members who are having personal problems such as:

1. Emotional difficulties 2. Marital conflicts 3. Alcohol and drug problems 4. Parent-child family conflicts 5. Stress 6. Job issues

Nicole Erwin is a Murray native and started working at WKMS during her time at Murray State University as a Psychology undergraduate student. Nicole left her job as a PTL dispatcher to join the newsroom after she was hired by former News Director Bryan Bartlett. Since, Nicole has completed a Masters in Sustainable Development from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia where she lived for 2 1/2 years.
