MSU Faculty, Students Hold Second Demonstration to Address Issues of Racism

Allison Crawford

Students and faculty that held a Ferguson demonstration at Murray State University two weeks ago organized another demonstration yesterday, prompted by aggressive and derogatory comments on social media regarding the original demonstration.

Student Kesia Casey says she participated in the demonstration because she wants to promote dialogue about racism, which she says is more prevalent on campus than people realize.

“A lot of people think that this is stirring up drama and problems, when the problems are already there. We’re just talking about them and discussing them.”

In response to these events, Murray State University Libraries has added a new library guide to its site to assist those interested in learning more about race issues. An informal group of faculty and staff has begun meeting to discuss how to address issues of racism on campus.

A proud native of Murray, Kentucky, Allison grew up roaming the forests of western Kentucky and visiting national parks across the country. She graduated in 2014 from Murray State University where she studied Environmental Sustainability, Television Production, and Spanish. She loves meeting new people, questioning everything, and dancing through the sun and the rain. She hopes to make a positive impact in this world several endeavors at a time.
