Tab Brockman, goracers.com

Murray State University basketball officials are making an announcement this afternoon on sophomore Cameron Payne’s future.

In recent weeks, sports commentators across the country have speculated that Payne may be leaning towards an NBA draft, which would make him the youngest MSU player to go pro.

Since 1968, MSU has had 6 players drafted to the NBA; the most recent being Isaiah Canaan in 2013.

The 20-year-old Payne from Memphis has played point guard for the Racers since 2013. During that time, he’s earned a host of recognition including a MSU-record nine Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week awards.

Payne and Head Coach SteveProhm are holding a press conference at 3pm in the CFSB Center today; we’ll have more details after the conference.

Rob Canning is a native of Murray, KY, a 2015 TV Production grad of Murray State. At MSU, he served as team captain of the Murray State Rowing Club. Rob's goal is to become a screenwriter, film director or producer and looks to the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie for inspiration. He appreciates good music, mainly favoring British rock n' roll, and approves of anything with Jack White's name on it. When not studying, rowing or writing, Rob enjoys spending his free time with a book or guitar.
