MSU Alum Nathan Austin on Civil War Film "The Middle Ground"

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Murray State graduate Nathan Austin plays one of the leads in a new Civil War era film titled The Middle Ground shot in Davies, Hopkins, and McLean counties. He stops Sounds Good by to talk about it with Kate Lochte, also the upcoming 21st annual "Forest First" battle re-enactment in Sacramento starting Friday and some of the other projects he's involved in featuring MSU alumni.

The Middle Ground is centered around two brothers who grew up in Kentucky before the outbreak of the Civil War. They share the same father and different mothers. At the age of 12-13, they were separated - one went north and the other south. They later joined their respectful sides in the fighting and meet up on the battle ground. When they realize who they are fighting, they desert the war and move to Kentucky, where trouble finds them.

Austin says he's headed to the Battle of Sacramento (Kentucky) re-enactment this weekend. Sacramento is located northeast of Madisonville. The re-enactors were an important part of the film, he says. DVDs will be available for sale at the event and will soon after be sold in local stores and online.
