Morehead State Turns to Unpaid Furloughs to Address Budget Cuts

In response to looming budget cuts proposed by Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, Morehead State University has announced plans to place all faculty and staff on a five-day unpaid furlough.

The furlough is scheduled for March 21-25 during spring break in an effort to minimize the impact on student services.

The university is already dealing with a $2.6 million tuition shortfall due to declining enrollment.

Morehead State University president Wayne Andrews says Bevin’s proposed 4.5 percent budget cut for the remaining fiscal year made the furloughs necessary. In a campus-wide email, Andrews said work is underway to address a nearly $4 million spending cut for next fiscal year.
