More than 40,000 Kentuckians have registered to vote or have updated their registration through the online portal GoVoteKy.com.

This is according to Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes as she continues her voter registration effort. Grimes is touring the state to urge people to register ahead of the October 11 deadline.

Nearly 20 stops include universities, colleges and technical schools. Grimes says she’s hoping to improve Kentucky’s ‘lackluster voter turnout.’

In 2015, just over 30% of registered Kentuckians cast ballots.

GoVoteKy.com launched last March.

In June, more than 100,000 Kentuckians had accessed the website.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
