U.S. Department of Defense

More 101st soldiers in the 2nd Brigade Combat Team are set to return to Fort Campbell on Thursday.

Soldiers in the ‘STRIKE’ team return from a nine-month deployment to Iraq and other Southwest Asian countries. Army Col. Brett Sylvia discussed the mission's activities in a video conference Wednesday from Baghdad.

The team supported Operation Inherent Resolve efforts, with the primary mission of advising and assisting, training and equipping Iraqi security forces. The team also engaged in combat, intelligence and security operations. STRIKE is comprised of approximately 1,700 soldiers.

The ceremony begins at 5:50 p.m. at Fort Campbell.

A group of STRIKE soldiers returned last week.

Matt Markgraf joined the WKMS team as a student in January 2007. He's served in a variety of roles over the years: as News Director March 2016-September 2019 and previously as the New Media & Promotions Coordinator beginning in 2011. Prior to that, he was a graduate and undergraduate assistant. He is currently the host of the international music show Imported on Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
