Mongiardo Qualifies for Senate Race

By KPR

Frankfort, KY – Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo is officially in Kentucky's US Senate race this year. Mongiardo dropped by the Secretary of State's office Thursday to pay the 500-dollar qualifying fee to run in the May 18th Democratic primary. Dr. Mongiardo says he's a pro-growth independent Democrat.

"As I've said many times before, I don't need this job. But that gives me the freedom to vote and stand up for what I believe in because the worst thing that can happen to me is to get elected, personally. The best thing that can happen to me is I'm not elected. So, it gives me the ability to stand up and fight for what I believe in."

Earlier this week, Mongiardo's chief rival in the Democratic primary, Attorney General Jack Conway, qualified to run. Three other Democrats, and five Republicans, are also vying for the seat currently held by Republican U-S Senator Jim Bunning, who's not seeking re-election.
