Massac, Ill – The Metropolis Illinois City Council approved rate increases for water and sewer services. By October first water rates should double to sixteen dollars and sewer increase to twenty-five dollars. Rates should cap in 2014 at about thirty-five to forty dollars. The Metropolis Planet reports the city is one of two in southern Illinois with combined sewer and water drains. The E-P-A is working Metropolis to separate the systems for environmental reasons.
