Metropolis, IL – Officials in Metropolis, Illinois have failed to pass funds for city scholarships due to budget crunches. The Metropolis Planet reports the motion to approve $120,000 for scholarships this year failed to gain a second at this week's regular council meeting. City residents will receive their college scholarships this fall. Awards range from $800 to $2,500. The failed motion affects 40 - 50 applicants for spring 2010.
