By Casey Northcutt

Metropolis, IL – The promise of new jobs is on the horizon in Metropolis Illinois. Construction is expected to begin soon on a 10-year project for a new port and transportation hub along the Massac County riverfront. Mayor Billy McDaniel says the city recently struck a 60- million dollar deal with private investment firm, Vieste LLC. The city council approved a letter last night endorsing the port and promising to aid construction with property tax incentives and zoning. McDaniel says the project will provide Metropolis with up to one thousand construction jobs, and upon completion, permanent employment for 500 to 700 residents.
