Mentalist to Perform for "Save the Massac" Project

Save The Massac

Nationally known mentalist and illusionist Morgan Strebler grew up in Sikeston, Missouri.  He's a Superman fan and this Wednesday, for New Year's Eve, he’s performing at the Baymont Theatre in Metropolis.

It’s all part of the restoration of the town’s Massac Theatre. President of the “Save the Massac” effort Lisa Gower stopped by the station to detail the afternoon’s festivities.

According to the organization’s website, the theatre was built in 1938 and quickly became the pride of Massac County. After decades of deterioration, the building was condemned in 2009. The Save the Massac committee formed soon after.

Gower says while the building’s foundation is mostly solid, water damage is the biggest of her concerns.

"We have a plan, we have a vision for the theatre... it's a step by step process," Gower said.

Gower says the New Years events should move the project forward in a big way. She also says Strebler’s been a great help with the show, offering to foot the whole bill. All proceeds will go to the restoration effort.

There are two main events planned, taking place at 3 o’clock and 7 o’clock December 31st. Strebler has also planned a Houdini-esque escape act as the ball drops at midnight.

“It’s a great way to kickstart your New Year’s Eve festivities,” Gower said.

Tickets are $20; those unable to stop by can check out a 30-minute live stream beginning at 7 pm. A $5 minimum donation is required.
