Medical Marijuana Bill Remains on Judiciary Committee Agenda

A second day of testimony on medical marijuana legislation took place in Frankfort Tuesday afternoon.  The legislation is on the agenda again for Wednesday’s legislative committee meeting.

After hearing from supporters Monday, opponents to medical marijuana offered comments to Judiciary Committee members Tuesday.  Lexington doctor Danesh Mazloomdoost made an argument against the term “medical marijuana”. “Every medicine currently used in health care has specific doses with studies on how much to use, for whom, for what, and most importantly it’s harms.  Marijuana has none of these guidelines,” said Mazloomdoost.

Although not supportive of some portions in this bill, Louisville Representative Jason Nemes says he’s come to support the overall idea. “Now the Kentucky Medical Association is against it, I want to say, I know the nurses are for it.  I think the American Medical Association is against it.  And I trust our docs.  But, I called a number of them.  And they were split down the middle,” said Nemes.  “I called over 12.”

As far as a vote in the House Judiciary Committee, following testimony yesterday, committee Chairman Joe Fischer said he's unsure of the bill’s future.
