Media Release: Big Atomic Headlines WKMS Free Live Lunch After Dark Concert

Caroline Bowman

Murray, KY - Murray State’s listener supported public radio service WKMS-FM hosts its first ever Live Lunch: After Dark free concert on Tuesday, August 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. on the stage of MSU's historic Lovett Auditorium.

Delta folk duo The Savage Radley open the concert at 7 p.m., followed by reigning WKMS Battle of the Bands champions Big Atomic at 8 p.m. Audience members will enjoy two hours of free live music in an intimate on-stage setting, with complimentary coffee and cookies from our friends at Future Grounds Tea & Coffee House.

The WKMS Live Lunch series presents local and regional musicians in on-air noon-hour performances in WKMS studios each month, which have also streamed live on wkms.org. It is a regular special feature of the program Sounds Good, a mid-day music and community conversation program airing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Program Director and Sounds Good host Tracy Ross says, “Along with our annual Battle of the Bands Competition, we’re pleased to introduce wonderful musicians from our region to the Live Lunch venue, but our studios are ill-equipped to welcome audiences.” Consequently WKMS is inviting the audience to the Lovett Stage, and the performance will be recorded for later airplay.

For those who can’t attend, the concert will air Thursday, August 27 at 7p.m. on WKMS, pre-empting World Café.

WKMS broadcasts a continuous, comprehensive mix of news and music, with stations including 91.3 WKMS-FM, WKMS HD-1 and All-Music HD-2, Murray; 90.9 WKMD, WKMD HD-1 and HD-2, Madisonville; 89.5 WKMT, Fulton; and All-Classical 92.5 Paducah, 88.9 Murray and 105.1 Madisonville. WKMS also streams both its News and All Classical channels online at wkms.org, a robust website offering playlists, regional news and an online contribution page. For more call 1-800-599-4737.
