McCracken High Consolidation Still a Go!

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – Efforts to block a planned consolidation of McCracken County High Schools have failed. Special Judge Thomas Castlen ruled against the motion yesterday in McCracken Circuit Court. County resident Edwin Riley filed the lawsuit, claiming the property where the new school is proposed to be built sits in a flood plain and is in too close proximity to the Barkley Regional Airport. The suit also claims board members violated a Kentucky conflict of interest statute because they owned property at or near the proposed site and building a new school nearby would enhance their property values. West Kentucky Star reports Judge Castlen found no merit to the arguments. Riley intends to appeal the decision.
