McCracken County has met the minimum threshold to receive funding to cover ‘emergency protective measures’ used earlier this year to minimize flooding.
According to Emergency Management Director Jerome Mansfield, a regional meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at the Purchase Area Development District Office in Mayfield to discuss funding efforts.
Mansfield says little damage occurred during the severe weather that took place in late February and early March, but totalled more than $241,000 dollars, qualifying the county for aid.
“Fortunately, the city and county did not suffer a lot of property damage,” Mansfield said. “There was very little individual damage occurred by citizens, but the declaration will cover what is termed ‘emergency protective measures’ taken to minimize flooding effects.”
The needed funding will reimburse Paducah’s Engineering and Public Works Department for overtime put in during the floods.
Mansfield says information on specific funding awards will not be heard yet.
Those attending will learn how to apply to FEMA for reimbursement grants.
All counties from the Jackson Purchase area have been encouraged to attend the meeting, hosted by the Kentucky Division of Emergency Management.
Another meeting will be held in Hopkinsville on May 2nd at the Pennyrile Area Development District.
