McCracken County High School Consolidation Discussions
By Angela Hatton
Murray, KY – The McCracken County School Board held its final town hall meeting last night to hear concerns about potential county high school consolidation. The Schools Public Relations Director Sheryl Lawson says board members are still considering whether to build a new high school for overcrowded Lone Oak or build a facility that would house Lone Oak, Reidland, and Heath students. Some parents voiced concerns that the proposed small learning communities would hurt students' academic performance and limit extracurricular activities. But officials reassured parents, citing the success of similar models in Maine and South Carolina. Officials have looked at six pieces of 100-acre land, but won't disclose the locations under consideration.
