A Graves County homeless shelter is at risk of closing if it can’t find a new director soon.

Sara Hobbs and her husband run the Mayfield Missions shelter, which provides hot meals and beds for up to ten people at a time.  But she says that at 80-years-old, health issues and a drop in donations have reduced her ability to keep the house open for much longer.  So she’s now looking for new blood to come in and revitalize the shelter.

Hobbs says the Mayfield Mission has helped over 750 men over the last 14 years and is crucial at this time of season.

“We stayed full all the time," said Hobbs. "By the time one leaves, another’s already here. And with winter coming on, if they don’t have a shelter, there're gonna be people out on the streets. So we really need this one to stay open.”

The Mission runs only on community support and donations.

Hobbs says she’ll try to stay on until a new director is found, and says any interested persons can contact her at (270) 705-1100.
