The owners of a funeral home in Marshall County have plead guilty to fraud, theft and forgery.
The Department of Insurance began investigating allegations against Filbeck-Cann & King Funeral Home owners Tim and Becky King in early 2017.
The department said in a release this week their investigation revealed the funeral home had a licensed insurance agent on staff, but the Kings had sold policies, forged the agent’s name on documents and stole premiums totalling more than $300,000.
The Kings pleaded guilty in April to two counts of fraudulent insurance acts of more than $500, one count of theft by unlawful taking or disposition, one count of criminal possession of a forged instrument and two misdemeanor counts of fraudulent insurance acts.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Mark Blankenship said they have paid nearly $300,000 in restitution and still owe $62,000. He said they will be sentenced in August.
Special prosecutor Tim Starks from the Graves Circuit is presiding over the case.
The plea called for 30 days in jail for both Becky and Tim, but Blankenship said Tim offered to serve his wife’s jail time to total 60 days in jail after sentencing in August.
