Maiden Alley Cinema in Paducah will run the feature film The Interview beginning the day after Christmas.
Maiden Alley Director Landee Bryant-Greene says a group of independent cinemas across the country petitioned Sony Pictures to release the film to smaller theaters. The company over-nighted the film to Maiden Alley after Bryant booked a copy.
Bryant-Greene says showing The Interview is a matter supporting artistic freedom and integrity and believes people should be able to consume media however they wish.
“This is kind of a pretty poignant moment in history and its setting a precedent for, for filmmakers. You know, if it had gone the other way people might be a little more hesitant to put their films out there or cover certain topics or," said Bryant-Greene. "You know, there are things that are taboo but we live in a country where it’s okay to express yourself in certain ways so we just think it’s important.”
Bryant-Greene expects a large crowd for The Interview. She says the theater will open at 6 p.m. Friday with tickets sold on a first-come-first-served basis.
