Magazine Names Paducah Among Best 'River Cities' for Retirees

Matt Markgraf, WKMS

Paducah is one of the best places in America to retire to, according to a national magazine.

“Where to Retire” magazine finds more than 700,000 Americans relocate to new towns to retire every year.

The city is profiled as one of the “8 Rejuvenating River Cities” in the July/August 2016 issue.

Editor Annette Fuller says many retirees migrate to water to enjoy the outdoors,

“River cities, including Paducah, situated near the Ohio, Cumberland, Mississippi and Tennessee rivers, appeal to retirees who seek the outdoors," said Fuller. "Bird watching or fishing along the banks, hiking nearby trails, boating and camping are just a few of the available activities."

The magazine also attributes Paducah as having a quaint downtown, continuing education opportunities and a variety of shopping and dining options, desirable qualities they say for prospective retirees.  “Where to Retire” magazine is geared towards helping people plan retirement locations.

Other 'Rejuvenating River Cities' on the list include:

Asheville, NC; Augusta, GA/Aiken, SC; Bend, OR; Covington, LA; Grand Junction, CO; Victoria, TX; Wenatchee, WA.
